Myanmar Army troops lobbed more than 20 rounds of heavy weapons into in Kutkai Lonkan village.


Previously, on June 15, 2014, without any provocation, the Myanmar Army troops lobbed more than20 rounds of heavy weapons into Lonkan village in Kutkai Township of Northern Shan State. The shelling destroyed the house of Lonkan villager, Ta Kun Htay, and all the villagers had to flee from the village, out of fear. The village has 110 households.


The PSLF/TNLA news with dateline June 15, 2014 said that troops from Ta’ang Army Battalion 101 and Myanmar Army IBs 241 and 242, under MOC-16 and IB 41, clashed at a place between Lonkan and Tonpan villages in Kutkai Township of Ta’ang Region. Clashes starting earlier died down at 1500 hours and they resumed from 1630 to 1740 hours. Then the clashes went on sporadically. There was no casualty on the Ta’ang Army Side and casualty on the Myanmar Army side was not known.

Contrary to earlier report saying that shelling by Myanmar Army troops burnt down a house in Naungsant village in Ta-mo Nyeh Sub-Township of Kutkai Township, Northern Shan State, further inquiry revealed that the Myanmar Army troops burnt down 2 houses hit by heavy weapon shells. The houses burnt down
belonged to 2 Kachin ethnic people, U Zaw Mya and U Zaw Taung. The shelling had frightened Naungsant villagers and made them to flee towards Tamo Nyeh Sub-Township for refuge.
