Previously, on June 15, 2014, without any provocation, the Myanmar Army
troops lobbed more than20 rounds of heavy weapons into Lonkan village
in Kutkai Township of Northern Shan State. The shelling destroyed the house
of Lonkan villager, Ta Kun Htay, and all the villagers had to flee from
the village, out of fear. The village has 110 households.
The
PSLF/TNLA news with dateline June 15, 2014 said that troops from Ta’ang
Army Battalion 101 and Myanmar Army IBs 241 and 242, under MOC-16 and IB
41, clashed at a place between Lonkan and Tonpan villages in Kutkai
Township of Ta’ang Region. Clashes starting earlier died down at 1500
hours and they resumed from 1630 to 1740 hours. Then the clashes went on
sporadically. There was no casualty on the Ta’ang Army Side and
casualty on the Myanmar Army side was not known.
Contrary to
earlier report saying that shelling by Myanmar Army troops burnt down a
house in Naungsant village in Ta-mo Nyeh Sub-Township of Kutkai
Township, Northern Shan State, further inquiry revealed that the Myanmar
Army troops burnt down 2 houses hit by heavy weapon shells. The houses
burnt down
belonged to 2 Kachin ethnic people, U Zaw Mya and U Zaw
Taung. The shelling had frightened Naungsant villagers and made them to
flee towards Tamo Nyeh Sub-Township for refuge.
