Human Rights Violation (June 10, 2014)

According to local sources, villagers of Naung Ang, Phalin, Hsaingtaung, Manaung etc. villages in Namkham Township have been arrested and tortured on flimsy charges of being TNLA spies by Myanmar Army troops from 88 Division.

The local villagers are in the grip of fear as the Myanmar Army troops, after
suffering severe losses in battles against the TNLA Army Battalion 478, are arresting, torturing and forcing the villagers to serve as porters, who are working in the rice fields and farms, and who are searching for their cattle in the forest. On June 4 and 5, Myanmar Army troops seized and tortured 8 villagers.

Man-aung villagers, 70-year old Ta Agok and Kun Aik Hsay, have to be treated for severe injuries. Likewise, Mankan villager, Aik Yaing Ton, who was forced to serve as a guide by troops of Myanmar Army 88 Division, was kicked and beaten up violently on the way from Phalin village to Naung An village.

The villagers tortured by troops of the 88 Division are: (1) Ta Agok, (2) Kun Aik Hsay, (3) Aung Than (4) Aiklon Kyan Aye, (5) Aik Nyan Kar, (6) Aik Ngay, (7) AikNaing Aung, (8) Aik Yaing Ton.
